My father-in-law Ned Pugh was sent to Vietnam in 1964 as part of Underwater Demolition Team 12, and was on the beach when the Marines landed in Da Nang on March 8, 1965. After his deployment, he was asked to join Navy SEAL Team 1, but turned it down. Full story in The War Horse
