I’m currently working on a book about bicycles. So here’s a pic of me off the front in the Stanford criterium during my freshman year, circa 1986. (I got caught on the final lap.) Palo Alto Bicycles frameset (made in Italy by Biemmezeta) with all Campagnolo Super Record–other than the Modolo Professional brakes, which had been a gift from my grandfather. Cinelli bar and stem and Benotto tape. Also note the Avocet cyclometer and Giro helmet (both introduced in 1985) and Sidi Revolution shoes.
